I was doing some checking and I found a few websites that have really good tutorials on how to switch from Windows to Ubuntu:

One thing I should mention from personal experience is that the Migration Assistance really sucks sometimes. When I first installed Ubuntu it was quick and painless, but upon a re-install on a dual boot machine the installer would infinitely stick on the account migration. If this happens to you, you’ll need to reboot from the CD, log into the terminal, then run the installer without the Migration Assistant:
user@localhost:~$ ubiquity –migration-assistant

I love Ubuntu but I’m also realistic on what to expect from it.
Being an avid reader on ubuntuforums.org I can see that many people experience problems with Ubuntu after performing an upgrade to the O/S.
Untill today… so far, every clean install I’ve done has been flawless or almost flawless… so instead of using any migration software… I just keep my data on the already existing categories and just back that to a pendrive and do a clean install again with the new edition that may be available (for example soon 10.04).
To some may be a pain to have to install all your software again and have it working like you like, but many times, the upgrades dont go as planned… at least this way I minimize the problems and its not really a pain at all to have to install and configure stuff again.
So far, today, 2 years Ubuntu and running….
Great site!
